New luxury New York City buildings have helped bring in wealthy celebrity clientele to the city. Among these new buildings is a newly renovated apartment complex known as the Walker Tower is getting a great deal of attention within the New York City luxury real estate market after several celebrity tenants have bought homes in the building. The Walker Tower was originally built in 1929 for the New York Telephone Company and is located on West 19th Street in New York City. Before it was purchased in 2007 by JDS Development and Property Markets Group it was an office building for Verizon. After buying the building the company put more than $200 million into the building transforming former cubicle floors into 50 luxury apartments with 14 foot high ceilings in them.
These unique apartment homes have heavy steel frame and concrete casings that help add an incomparable amount of privacy for owners. Each apartment has 18 inch walls between them and the floors can bear 100 pounds per square foot. These features have drawn in several high profile celebrity clients who are not only looking for luxury, but peace and quiet in their homes. The durable construction of this building is able to offer discerning buyers with a level of privacy that they cannot find in virtually any other building in the city; proving that privacy is a new ‘must have’ luxury feature for picky luxury buyers.
Of the 50 unites in the building about half of the apartments have been sold. Right now two bedroom apartments are costing as much as $13 million in this building. Earlier this month, actress Cameron Diaz purchased a three bedroom home for $9 million in the building, bringing even more attention to this unique new NYC space. The actress is joining other celebrity home owners in the building such as Nicole Kidman, Harrison Ford and Katie Holmes.
The homes in this building are filled with luxury features such as massive steam showers, giant foyers, tilt and turn windows and more. On top of the building there is a roof top deck where residents can enjoy 360 degree views of the city. The addition of stunning buildings such as this to the New York City luxury real estate market has had many big name celebrity clients turning to the Big Apple for their primary residences, second homes and investment properties.
